Owner Linda Cummings never dreamed she'd be
operating a home décor store, but she couldn't escape her roots. "My
mother was on the 5-year Decorating Plan-we repainted, re-carpeted, and
re-wallpapered at least that often when I was growing up. My mother re-arranged
her furniture at least every other month-maybe every other week-it seemed like
things were always changing. All of my sisters love to decorate, too!"
While Cummings enjoys decorating, she has no formal training. "I am a
business person that needs an artistic outlet. My true skills lie in the area
of helping other people with their businesses." Cummings provides small
business consulting part-time for several organizations, including the
Department of Veterans Affairs, and loves it. She and husband Mark, a painting
contractor in Ankeny, have 3 children-Lauren (23), Leah (19), and Nathan (16).
She is a life-long area resident, and has lived in Ankeny since 1982. Cummings
also provides custom painting services, and supplies the store with a
continuous inventory of painted vintage furniture.
Co-Managers-Margo Fox and Kathy Jorgensen Margo and
Kathy partner up to keep the store organized, running smoothly, and looking
great. From assisting with special orders to helping customers select the
perfect gift to great merchandising, they are the 'go to' girls! Either Margo
or Kathy, (or both since they tend to come in on their day's off) can be found
in the store Monday through Friday between 10 and 5, and on most Saturdays,
doing their thing! Our favorite saying "You call this work??!!"
Margo
is a resident of Johnston, and husband Chris is a Command Sergeant Major and
works full-time in the Iowa National Guard. A little secret about Margo you
should know is that she LOVES the Iowa State Fair-ask her about it sometime.
She is also the ultimate volunteer and was recently named Iowan of the Day for
her work with the Iowa National Guard Family Support Groups, the Blue Ribbon
Foundation and especially the Corn Dog Kickoff-an annual State Fair fundraiser.
Kathy and her husband, Jim, are residents of Ankeny. They
are both enjoying Jim's recent retirement from Polk County as a Deputy
Sheriff-well at least he's enjoying not working as much! Kathy can't
retire-what would we do? She enjoys spending her free time in their pool, out
shopping or with her daughters and granddaughter. |
